Venezuelan flutist, Maria Gabriela Alvarado and local pianist, Ilana Joyce Cady, present a program of music for flute and piano. The repertoire for this concert was inspired by works of Philippe Gaubert, he was the primary exponent of the French flute school. He was prolific and popular during his time and remains a favorite today. Both Gaby and Ilana make it a priority to include pieces composed by women on all of their concert programs, this will be no exception. Featuring works by Mel Bonis, Lili Boulanger, Cecil Chaminade and more, they will explore and discuss some of the struggles these contemporaries of Gaubert had getting their music heard. It will be an evening filled with beautiful music.
Gaby is a Doctoral candidate at University of Texas, Dallas, and has an active performing career. She also has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. During this concert she will discuss what this condition means, and how it has effected her performing career. There will be a free will donation at the close of the concert and a portion of this donation will go to an EDS research foundation.
